Feed your wild side
Mushroom foraging, oyster and clam digs, and meals cooked where the food was found. Small guided groups in the forests and on the tide flats around Seattle.
What a day with us has that a walk in the woods does not
Foraging on your own means guessing where, guessing what, and hoping it is safe to eat. Here is what we take off your plate.
The only fully licensed, insured and permitted foraging operator in Washington
Permits for the land, insurance for the group, and more than 20 years of running food experiences here. You are not trespassing and you are not guessing.
We scout the ground days before you arrive
Guides walk the location ahead of every date and take you where the mushrooms are fruiting that week. No aimless wandering.
No more than eight guests per guide
On the hunts the guide-to-guest ratio tops out at 1:8, so you can ask about every mushroom you pick up.
A 95% find rate, and nobody goes home empty-handed
Nature does not take bookings, so we promise no quantities. On the rare thin day you still leave with mushrooms to cook.
Taught for first-timers
We teach edible against not edible in plain words, with the lookalikes side by side. The Latin names can wait.
The food is part of the day
Chef-led classes end in a live cooking demo you join in, with mushrooms prepared four or five ways. On the beach you taste raw oysters from a local farm, then dig your own to take home.
Safety kit on every hunt
Every guest gets a high-visibility vest and a whistle, and the guide carries a Garmin inReach satellite communicator. Baskets, knives and gloves are provided too.
Pick your way into the wild
Pick by what you want to find. Every experience ends with something to eat or something to take home.
“A must-do on any foodie’s list.”

What guests say after a day out
Even though it took a bit of effort to get to the San Juan Islands from Seattle, it’s worth every step of the way. Paddling through the serene waters and seeing seals within a few feet of our kayaks was an experience I will never forget!
Instead of paying $80/lb. for matsutake mushrooms, now I am able to find them on my own! I was able to learn where these elusive mushrooms grow and how to spot them. And after seeing matsutake side by side with its deadly lookalike, I will never mix up the two in the future! Absolutely worth the price for the lifetime of eating fresh matsutake mushrooms ahead.
Our teens couldn’t get over how fun it was to dig for clams. They loved learning the secret ‘tells’ for finding them and then picking the biggest ones to bring home. And with the pro tips we learned (and safety gear!), they even shucked oysters without hurting themselves! What a great way to get them excited to be outside in nature, while indulging in a constant treasure hunt.
Before taking the intro to mushroom foraging class, I had only picked mushrooms at the grocery store. I was pleasantly surprised to discover how safe and fun wild mushroom foraging can be. I left the class feeling confident and excited to try foraging on my own!
I have done both the foraging 101 class and the chef-led class. In the chef-led class, I loved that I learned the same core information as the 101 class, but with the added benefits of delicious tastings in and out of the woods and a hands-on cooking demo. If you’re a foodie who likes to cook, this is the class for you!
