In guests’ words
If you’re hesitant about the great outdoors, take it from me, this trip is totally worth it! Kayaking through the San Juan Islands made me feel like a real adventurer and the wildlife we saw was out of this world. But the real MVP? The food! Who knew you could have such gourmet meals in the middle of nature? This trip made me appreciate the beauty and bounty of the PNW even more.
Even though it took a bit of effort to get to the San Juan Islands from Seattle, it’s worth every step of the way. Paddling through the serene waters and seeing seals within a few feet of our kayaks was an experience I will never forget!
The guides were amazing, so passionate about kayaking and the environment, and they made sure we felt safe and comfortable the whole trip. Plus, helping with kayak loading and setting up camp was surprisingly fun and brought the whole group together. I felt right at home! Thank you for creating such an inclusive and enjoyable experience!
My family came to visit me in Seattle and I didn’t want to take them to a stuffy seafood restaurant. This was a big step up, being outside on a gorgeous day at the beach. We sipped on bubbly, enjoyed a 3-course seafood meal, and even snacked on yummy charcuterie. I can’t imagine a better way to savor Seattle’s famous seafood. Salmon, clams, and oysters…YUM!
It’s rare for grandparents and teenagers to have equal fun together! The Tide to Table Feast afforded picturesque beach vibes and a delicious meal together.
My husband is a raw oyster fanatic! This has been a bucket list experience for our family for forever. It was unbelievable to see the thousands of oysters on the beach as far as the eye could see.
Our teens couldn’t get over how fun it was to dig for clams. They loved learning the secret ‘tells’ for finding them and then picking the biggest ones to bring home. And with the pro tips we learned (and safety gear!), they even shucked oysters without hurting themselves! What a great way to get them excited to be outside in nature, while indulging in a constant treasure hunt.
Nothing worth doing is easy…and same holds true for matsutake hunting! They warned us that the terrain would be steep and challenging, so definitely bring hiking poles or use their walking sticks. By taking it slow, going in a zig zag pattern, and following our guide to hidden spots, we all found more than we could comfortably carry!
Growing up, I ate matsutake dishes my Mom and grandmother would make for special occasions. Not only did I learn how to find them, but I was able to bring home several pounds to share with my family! What a special way for me to reconnect with my roots and relive childhood nostalgia across generations.
Instead of paying $80/lb. for matsutake mushrooms, now I am able to find them on my own! I was able to learn where these elusive mushrooms grow and how to spot them. And after seeing matsutake side by side with its deadly lookalike, I will never mix up the two in the future! Absolutely worth the price for the lifetime of eating fresh matsutake mushrooms ahead.
From providing hand warmers and nitrile gloves (I don’t like touching slimy things!) to delicious surprise tastings in the woods, Forage Seattle really thinks of every small detail that makes a huge difference in personal comfort. Their pre-trip planning details also made me feel confident and prepared for the experience.
As a mushroom fanatic who has attended classes and hunts coast to coast at all different price points, I can tell you that no one does it like Forage Seattle. Worth every penny, this premium immersive experience activated all the senses and armed me with cooking skills and recipes that have stuck with me far beyond the three hours of the class.
