Good to know before you book
Anything else, call or text and a person answers.
How physically demanding is this?
This hunt is not stroller or wheelchair accessible. You must be able to be on your feet for 4 hours, traversing uneven ground and bending over regularly. Hiking boots are a must. A hiking pole and micro spikes help on the steeper areas.
How big is the group?
The group is capped at 16 guests, with a maximum guide-to-guest ratio of 1:8.
Where and when do we meet?
In the Cle Elum area. The meeting time is tentative, around 7:45 am, and the booking confirmation gives the final location and time. There is no bathroom at the meeting point, so stop in downtown Cle Elum first. From there it is roughly a 17-20 minute caravan to the hunt spot, with no cell reception once there.
What if I’m late?
We can’t extend refunds or wait for late guests, because waiting costs everyone else time in the woods. We text you a map link to the final meeting location, and getting there is your responsibility.
Do I need a special vehicle?
An AWD, SUV or high-clearance vehicle helps on rocky forest roads, so we encourage carpooling once you arrive at the meeting point. If you leave your car at the meeting location, you need a Discover Pass.
What should I wear and bring?
Pants, a light rain jacket, a long sleeve shirt, a brimmed hat and hiking boots. Mosquitoes can be serious depending on the day, and we provide repellent. Bring a water bottle or Camelbak and a bag lunch for after the hunt. Download offline maps and a GPS tracking app, such as Gaia, Strava or AllTrails, and practice with it beforehand.
What if we don’t find morels?
We can’t guarantee we will find large quantities of mushrooms, but we scout the area in advance and cite a 95% success rate. If we cancel because of inclement weather, or because we do not judge fruiting conditions worthy of a hunt, you receive a full refund.
What is included?
Snacks, hot beverages and water. Foraging gear: safety vest, whistle, mushroom bag, knife and gloves, with the bag, whistle and vest yours to keep. Morels to take home. An 18% service fee is included as gratuity for the guides.
